BASIC OVERVIEW OF THE PSF LEAGUE
A Basic explanation of the league – PSF offers an 8 on 8 tackle football program in the Spring that takes place annually from March through the First weekend of May each year. The league accepts youth football teams from all over Florida, from all types of leagues and associations regardless of affiliation. Teams can enter the league under their own league names and/or different names. PSF is an independently operated organization that is unaffiliated with any other leagues or programs.
PSF operates like BOTH a tournament and a league – PSF is like a tournament in that programs can enter as many or as few teams as they wish, participating according to the rules of the league. However, PSF is like a league in that it has a regular season followed by a postseason.
How many games do teams play - PSF provides 5 games over a 5-week regular season along with an additional 1 games from an automatic berth into the playoffs for every team providing a total of 6 games. Teams can play additional games in the playoffs should they keep winning.
Do you have to register a team in every age group – No, programs can enter any number of teams, also entering multiple teams for a given age group should they have excessive players for one age division.
When does the season start – Games are played on Saturdays usually beginning in the first Saturday of March. There are typically 3 weeks of jamborees available for teams to choose from during the month of February. The state championships are typically on the first weekend of May.
Do we have to join the PSF association – No there are no requirements to join the PSF, except that your team must abide by all of operational and game rules.
What is included in the program – All of the league operations and management, player/coach liability and 2nd Tier accident insurance, coach badges, player participation medals and team winner trophies, game fields and locations, referees, game schedules, field set up, striping and operations, weigh in and certification processes and a state playoff and championship. In short, the league provides for all operational aspects and coaches can just coach.
How much travel is involved – Teams play out of their regional areas for the majority of their regular season games. PSF has a ONE-week travel rule, that requires all teams to travel outside of their regions to play a “foreign” team. This game will be a double header meaning teams will play 2 teams on that day. This allows PSF to “mix up” the teams so as to provide a more exciting schedule where teams play other programs than those they are used to facing.
Games Day – Each week PSF fields “feel” like a jamboree atmosphere because there are a minimum of 14 games taking place at each game field. Allowing teams to see a lot of their competitors and making for a weekly league feel each week.
How many players are on the teams – PSF does have a minimum 10 players rule but PSF does not have a maximum team player requirement. However most teams are between 14 and 18 players.
Do you offer competitive and recreational – PSF offers a D1, D2 and (D3 if needed * option). The PSF rules outline how this process is handled in terms of categorization but suffice to say PSF provides an alternative for each level of team.
What is the league age cutoff date – The PSF determines a player's age by July 31st from the just finalized FALL season. In most cases programs can bring their fall teams straight into PSF under the same age division as the team that just finished playing in the fall.
Where IS STATES AND RINGS ? – The location for the state championships is at IMG Academy, each year there will be unique rings handed out to the winning teams as well as the "SANDY
BECKETT CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY".
When is the deadline to register teams – The deadline to register is January 15 each year.
What are the equipment requirements – Programs are required to use their own equipment for their teams. PSF does offer a promo with DMAXX
How close is 8 on 8 to regular 11 on 11 – PSF league is played with 8 on 8 players, but in general terms the game is 90% similar to regular football. Rules surrounding issues like number of players on the line of scrimmage, field size, game timing, special teams etc. are outlined in the PSF rules document.
